The Villain from Aladdin is set to take centre stage with the eighth Lorcana release: The Reign of Jafar. The Chaos Cards team cannot wait to see the sorcerer join Ursula as the big villains within the realms of Lorcana. We have been super excited since the news was announced regarding Jafar last year. We can’t believe the release date is so soon!
The Reign of Jafar is due to be released on the 6th June 2025, with a pre release on the 30th May for some stores. Fans of the game can look forward to the usual booster packs and boxes, as well as single player decks and accessories. The Chaos Cards team are rather excited to see what’s inside the Illumineers Trove for Reign of Jafar and a new Illumineers Quest, known as ‘Palace Heist.’ Palace Heist is only the second set to be released, after the Ursula’s Return expansion in 2024, so we are eager to see what this quest entails!
An Illumineers Trove of Wonders

The always anticipated Illumineers Trove comes in a stunning full art storage box, complete with six ink themed card dividers to keep your Lorcana cards nicely sorted and to hand. It is definitely a trove worthy of the iconic villain. The trove contains:
- 1 Storage box
- 6 ink themed Card dividers
- 8 Booster packs
- 6 shimmering Damage-counter dice
- A Spin Dial Lore Counter
Heist of the Century

Reign of Jafar transports players to the iconic villains palace in Palace Heist, the Illumineers Quest. The plot for this quest revolves around stealing the Hexwell Crown by sneaking into Jafars Palace. Illumineers must navigate Jafars traps and obstacles in order to retrieve the reforged Hexwell Crown. This can be played alone or by teaming up with friends. ‘Palace Heist’ is made up of two player decks and four different battlegrounds, allowing for players to choose an appropriate level of difficulty. The Illumineers Quest looks set to include the following:
- 1 Oversized Jafar card
- 1 Jafar scenario deck (50 cards) with storage box
- 2 Player decks (60 cards each) with storage boxes
- 2 Oversized, double-sided battleground cards
- 1 Palace Heist playmat
- 1 Reforged Crown tile
- 1 Jafar draw token
- 5 Lore tracker tokens

How about the Starter Decks

A new Lorcana release would not be the same without the addition of the rather cool starter decks. With Reign of Jafar you can expect a Mulan and Stitch (ruby and steel) starter deck and a Tiana and Bruno (amber and amethyst) starter deck. The Chaos Cards team are looking forward to seeing how these starter decks in particular will play out!
Each starter deck will contain the following;
- 1 starter deck of 60 cards, including 2 foil cards of the characters on the package front
- 11 game tokens
- 1 rulebook
- 1 booster pack containing 12 randomized cards
What about the Booster Packs and Accessories?

Although there is no gift set to accompany the Jafars reign release, there looks to be card sleeves, playmats and deck boxes to accompany this release as well. The Hades playmat in particular looks to be an amazing addition to any players collection. There is also set to be a Rescue Rangers playmat, as well as a Tinkerbell deck box with matching sleeves. Sorceror Mickey is set to adorn deckboxes and sleeves for Reign of Jafar as well.
We honestly cannot wait for the Summer to come along to accompany this amazing Lorcana release. Are you looking forward to this release as well? Are there any characters you are hoping will make an appearnce in Reign of Jafar or future sets? Why don’t you let us know over on our socials. We do love to hear from you!
