Iconic Art – the Lego Way!

This meticulously detailed builds really bring each piece of artwork to life with a thoughtful, vibrant and authentic recreation of the original works. The builds are both satisfying and timeless! The Chaos Cards guys love the idea that you can be actively involved in creating something so cool and unique. In this post, we are looking at some classic pieces of fine art, but if you head over to Get Arty with Stunning New Lego Modern Art Sets we look at some more contemporary sets within the Lego Art range.
Van Goghs Sunny Sunflowers

The latest addition to the Lego Art collection is Van Goghs Sunflowers (31215) originally painted in 1889. It is a piece of art we all know and love, whether you are a fan of Van Gogh or not. You may be impressed to know that the piece was created as part of a collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. (The designers even used a full 1:1 scale replica when designing the Lego set, which meant designers could decide on things like scale and colour.) Pretty cool huh?
The sunny masterpiece contains a whooping 2615 pieces, so be prepared to get busy building. It is a BIG set. The Lego Art kit features 16 sunflowers with adjustable petals, a removable frame and a Van Gogh signature tile. Like many of the other Lego Sets in the range, it also contains a hangar element to help display it. The Van Gogh Sunflowers with its vibrant colours, is sure to be a piece to brighten up your day.
Mona Lisa Smile

The Mona Lisa is Iconic. Her smile, her eyes… The Chaos Cards team are pretty sure everyone has seen some kind of variation of the infamous painting. Lego has really made an effort with this Da Vinci masterpiece. The Lego Art Mona Lisa (31213) is as much of a masterpiece as its inspiration.
The Lego Mona Lisa comes with an impressive 1503 bricks to build this rather incredible 3D artwork. 1503 also happens to be the year that Da Vinci created the Mona Lisa, so that's a fun little Easter Egg from Lego! An interesting addition to the Lego set is that the colours used for this Lego build are more representative of the colours Da Vinci would have originally used when painting the portrait around 500 years ago! Special mention must go to how amazing the face of the Mona Lisa looks when created in Lego. It is often quite hard to represent true-to-life things in Lego, but we feel that the designers of this Lego Art kit have really created something special here. She looks really effective, especially in this semi-3D style commonly used in the Lego Art sets.
The Chaos Cards team love that the portrait comes with a detachable gold coloured frame, which can be used either with the Lego Mona Lisa or with any of the other Lego Art sets. The Lego Mona Lisa has been specifically designed to hang on the wall, and we have to say that the gold frame really compliments the Lego kit. An interesting fact is that this Lego set contains more gold bricks than any other Lego set.
A Celebration of Art and Innovation
“The LEGO® Art collection caters to anyone with a passion for classical art masterpieces, pop art, interior design, history or home décor. Some sets even feature an information booklet and an exclusive podcast!”
The Chaos Cards team love that you can always expect high quality with Lego, and the amazing Art range does not disappoint. We know we are always in safe hands with Lego, and we really like these rewarding projects and the fact they can be created on your own or with friends. A nice little addition to these two sets is the related podcasts to each build. Each podcast can be accessed through the relevant QR code and contains exclusive content about the respective artist and their inspirations.
