Expand your Birdwatching Journey with Wingspan Americas

You might remember the Chaos Cards team are huge fans of the stunning boardgame Wingspan. The engine building masterpiece of a game has received glowing reviews from across the boardgaming world, and for good reason. It’s a fantastic choice for both seasoned strategists or Bird watchers alike (Chaos Cards is by the seaside so we do a lot of Seagull spotting in our spare time!) and it has rightly become a staple game in many tabletop collections. Now we can look at expanding our horizons with a whole new array of birds. Read on to discover more.

From Hummingbirds to the Albatross

There are already three amazing expansions within the world of Wingspan, (not to mention the wonderful Wyrmspan and Finspan as well – for those of us who like our creatures to be more on the fiery or aquatic side.) So you can only imagine our excitement about the upcoming Americas expansion. The eagerly awaited fourth instalment brings us to the lush landscapes of Mexico, South America and the Caribbean. In order to play Wingspan Americas, players will need to have a copy of the original Wingspan (1-5 players) or Wingspan Asia (1-2 players.)

The landscape of Latin America is considered by many to be a bird enthusiasts paradise. The culturally rich region boasts an incredible biodiversity with over 3,000 species to discover. Wingspan Americas really is great at capturing such an amazing array of birds, from those with the worlds largest wingspan: the snowy Albatross, to the very smallest wingspan: the tiny bee hummingbird.

Artistry and Gameplay

The artwork, as always, is breathtaking. Beloved artists Natalia Rojas, Ana Maria Martinez Jaramillo, and Martha Clare have really delivered with their delicate and thoughtful illustrations. To be honest, we think it’s as much fun to admire the artwork as it is to play Wingspan!

With Wingspan Americas, Elizabeth Hargrave has introduced us to a new mechanic which fits seamlessly into the base game, and it features the adorable hummingbird. The dedicated hummingbird cards add a unique twist to the beloved game as they generate nectar, which happens to be a natural resource that acts as vital fuel for your habitat. Players can track this action on the new hummingbird garden board as well as using the all new specialised tracks.

What's in the Box?

Wingspan is a game known not only for its stunning artwork, but its high quality components as well. These add up to make the game feel premium in both it’s set up and play. In the box you will find the standard rulebook and scoring pad as well as:

  • New Bird Cards: 111 (as well as 40 specific Hummingbird cards,)
  • Bonus and Goal Tiles: 8 Bonus Cards and 5 double sided Goal tiles,
  • Resources: 15 Wooden Egg Miniatures and Nectar tokens,
  • Game Boards: Hummingbird Garden Board and 5 Player mat overlays,
  • Tracking: 5 Hummingbird tracks and 25 Hummingbird tokens.
  • You will also find the full automa components for solo gameplay, including 12 cards, rulebook and trackers.
