Written by K. Lambert - Oct 21 2025

Spooky Season is swiftly coming around, and here at Chaos Cards, we know exactly what that means: it’s time to trade in those boring ghost stories for some chilling, tabletop terror...
As the nights draw in, tabletop games are the perfect, way to spend a cold, winters evening. While some might reach for a horror movie, we think the best way to embrace the eerie atmosphere is with a chilling board game. The Chaos Cards team has had a spookily good time selecting games we think are absolutely essential for this season of horror.
In this post we have compiled a fun list of essential games for celebrating the most spine-chilling season of the year. So, put on some atmospheric music, prepare some spooky snacks, and get ready to face down eldritch entities and masked killers. Whether you’re fighting a slasher with only your wits, risking your very sanity to uncover an eldritch truth, or solving a puzzling mystery, we have a spooky game to fit all scary scenarios.
Arkham Horror: Lovecraft Letter

If you are a fan of Deduction, Push-Your-Luck, and Cosmic Horror type games then Arkham Horror: Lovecraft Letter sounds perfect for you! Set in the eerie town of Arkham, Lovecraft Letter is a chilling twist on the award winning Love Letter system, with reimagined visuals perfect for fans of the Arkham horror. Players must face eldritch horrors and uncover allies that are tainted with madness, and the ultimate cost of failure is your sanity. Can you outwit Cthulu Arkham Horror: Lovecraft Letter is a fast-paced game of deduction and a gripping battle of the wits which we think is perfect for between 2 and 6 players and an average game lasts about 15-20 minutes. The game is compact and perfect for taking out and about to play
Final Girl Core Box and Expansions

Think you could survive a horror movie? Final Girl puts your claim to the test by letting you play through those classic, terrifying film scenarios. Final Girl is THE game to play if you like the infamous horror trope. The one player game is an intense game for fans of solitaire gaming and high stakes: in Final Girl, you play directly as a lone female protagonist with the aim to kill the slasher and survive. To play Final Girl, you must first have the Core Box, which you can then combine with one of the many Feature Film boxes (or expansions,) such as Marrek Murders or Don’t Make a Sound in order to play. The Feature Film boxes contain a unique killer and iconic location, and you can even combine the Feature Film boxes to mix up the location and killer scenarios. (This helps to increase the replayability of the games.) There’s a great game board to track your final girls movements and location, with the terror cards representing the killers actions. If you want to find out more about the game, head over to Amy’s post where she looks at the game in more depth!
The Shivers

Looking for a truly unique, magical, and slightly unsettling experience? You need The Shivers. This cooperative game for 2 to 5 players is quick, fun, and features a jaw-dropping game board: an intricate, hand-crafted pop-up book! We can safely say it’s the first board game we've ever played that is literally built into a pop-up book. Similar to an escape room, the action unfolds in a mysterious mansion across a series of episodes. One player takes on the role of the Storyteller, leading the others as they cooperatively explore, solve puzzles, and vanquish foes. With each new episode and turn of the page, the pop-up rooms change, revealing new clues and challenges for a totally extraordinary experience. To make the game even more immersive, each pop up page in the book is handcrafted and unique, and filled with puzzling clues, room layouts and foes to vanquish. Not only does The Shivers look good, it plays well too!
Bananagrams Halloween Party

For a slightly more light hearted game this Halloween, look no further then the Bananagrams Halloween Party. It is a fun, rapid and competitive game which is literally FULL of Trick and Treats; you could end up flapping around the table like a bat, stealing an opponents tiles or swapping places with someone else! Bananagrams Halloween Party is a spooky twist on the ever popular and addictive Bananagrams game, it just happens to be slightly Battier then the original! The small game is perfect for taking out and about as it is fairly quick to play and perfect for between 1 – 8 players. Race to complete your word grid in spooky fashion!
Halloween Party (Card Game)

Are you looking for a light, fast-paced game perfect for your spooky celebration? Halloween Party is a quick card game for 3 to 6 players, where the goal is simple: host the most fabulous monster mash by attracting the most fascinating guests, from vampires to ghosts! The fun, mischievous artwork enhances this theme as players engage in tricky bluffing with each other to try and win. When a guest card is passed to you face down, you must decide whether to admit them to your party or decline them. The high player interaction comes from trying to lure the best monsters to your own dark castle while avoiding unwelcome visitors. Watch out, because opponents can play cards that let them steal your guests or cause your entire party to flee! Eek! With simple rules and high player interaction, Halloween Party is a perfect, spirited game for players aged 10 and above.
