Shock the System in Lightning Overdrive!

Another week brings another Trading Card Game release! This week, we have Yu-Gi-Oh’s latest set, Lightning Overdrive! This set is filled to the brim with shocking cards like ‘Book of Lunar Eclipse’ and ‘Ruddy Rose Dragon’, as well as paralyzing effects found on monsters such as ‘Ultimate Dragonic Utopia Ray’! With tons of support to other archetypes too, get ready to shift into overdrive!

Let’s begin by taking a look at the newest archetype available in this release, ‘Amazement Attraction’! The majority of these monsters revolve around equipping ‘Attraction’ traps to either ‘Amazement’ or an opponent’s monsters! Taking ‘Amazement Administrator ’ for example, they can be special summoned as soon as any trap is activated, making them insanely easy to get out onto the field! ‘’, as well as having some neat destruction capabilities, also allows you to equip an ‘Attraction’ trap onto an opponent’s monster as soon as they hit the field too, rapidly allowing you to get out those traps! But what do these ‘Attraction’ traps do? A lot of things! ‘Amaze Attraction Cyclone Coaster’ lets you grab an ‘Amazement’ monster from your deck! But that’s not all! These cards are pretty versatile and all of them can equip to your monsters too, for example, ‘Amaze Attraction Horror House’ let’s you negate an opponent’s monsters’ effects for the turn. All the ‘Amazement Attraction’ monsters, spells and traps are equally versatile, making them a tough challenge for any opponent to predict!
Now we’ve seen the new one, let’s take a look at some of the support in this set for older archetypes. The cover card for Lightning Overdrive is ‘Ultimate Dragonic Utopia Ray’ and there’s a lot of ‘Utopia’ centric cards in this set! This beefed up version of ‘Number C39: Utopia Ray’ seeks to synchronize well with the ‘ZW –‘ and even ‘ZS –‘ cards that are also available in this set! When ‘Ultimate Dragonic Utopia Ray’ is targeted, you can equip a ‘ZW –‘ monster straight from your hand or deck! On top of that, you can detach a material from this card to negative effects of your opponent’s monsters too! ‘Rose Dragons’ also get some fantastic support in the new ‘Ruddy Rose Dragon’ that banishes everything from the GYs and all other cards on the field too as soon as hits the field! Not just that, but ‘Ruddy Rose Dragon’ also has some great protection if it would be destroyed, allowing you to get out your ‘Black Rose Dragon’ in it’s place! Furthermore, ‘Garden Rose Flora’ lets you synchro summon whatever you want on your opponent’s turn too, as a quick effect! Pretty swish!
But this wouldn’t be a Yu-Gi-Oh! set without some great chase cards! ‘Book of Lunar Eclipse’ is one of them, not only letting you fill your GY by having you discard 1 card, but also getting to flip two of your opponent’s monsters into face-down defense position, getting rid of all their nasty effects for a turn! ‘Dark Honest’ looks pretty hot too, working similarly to the original ‘Honest’, only this time it’s DARK, and your opponent’s monster loses ATK equal to its ATK until the end of the turn! And to round out our look at some chase cards, it wouldn’t be Yu-Gi-Oh if there wasn’t a Dragon about! ‘Bahartiya, Skypiercer of the Light’ is a Light Dragon that, when it’s summoned from hand, lets you completely swap out your opponent’s hand, stopping their plays dead in their tracks!
As usual with Yu-Gi-Oh!, this set is packed! Featuring support for the TCG exclusive ‘War Rock’ archetype, more ‘A.I.’ bits in the gloriously named ‘When A.I. First Met You’ and ‘You & A.I.’, and further cards for ‘Traptrix’, ‘Dogmatika’, ‘S-Force’, ‘Dryton’, and more! And remember, as with the last few sets, there are also some great Starlight Rares to look out for!
