Exit Advent Calendar - The Hunt for the Golden Book

The Exit games are pretty good recreations of Escape Rooms but in board game format. The clever people at KOSMOS realised they could also translate this into an advent calendar format and we had the pleasure of trying out the brilliant Ice Cave advent calendar last year. This year however, we're checking out their Golden Book Advent Calendar.

This is as spoiler free a review as I can do because I really don't want to spoil any of the oodles of fun things you'll discover each day in this really unique and fun advent calendar adventure.

There's a little prep needed before you begin, you'll need to cut out a decoder but it's all very simple, and the cellophane the box comes in has a QR code to scan for Day 8 as there was a misprinting on the back of the box. If you lose this QR code, don't worry you can just go to their website and it'll show you the error there.

Once you've set your decoder up, you're good to go! You'll have a story book to read through each day which has a delightful plot regarding Santa's book of naughty and nice being stolen and you've tracked it down to a remote village to get to the bottom of it all.

Difficulty wise, the box states Beginner, and true to their word, there's not much in here that will confuse or keep you guessing. I'd say that children could easily work their way through this box of mini puzzles with some adult assistance. Each day takes about 10-20 minutes to complete depending on the puzzle and how long it takes you to read through the story, as I found they were decent size chunks of text narrating your journey to find the book.

I'd recommend this for any family looking to have something different for an Advent Calendar this year, you can do this solo or bring in a crowd to work their way through it. It's fun, it's clever and it's the perfect way to start and continue your December, with a little mystery each day.
