Experience the Thrill of Racing with Heat: Pedal to the Metal
Written by K. Lambert - Sep 24 2025

Heat – Pedal to the Metal has proven to be a hugely popular game at Chaos Cards, not just on the website and in the shop, but at the last couple of UK Games Expos as well. In fact this year it was practically racing off the shelves! Dave Whitelaw reviewed the base game for us back in 2023 and now we are back to talk about its amazing expansions. So if you want to experience the thrill of the car race then make sure you read on to find out more!
Put the Pedal to the Metal

Have you ever wanted to feel the thrill of a high speed car race from the comfort of your own home? Heat: Pedal to the Metal was a perfect game to capture the excitement and strategy of a 1960s era grand prix style race. The game includes stunning artwork and easy to learn mechanics. But the game isn’t just about rolling dice and moving cars - it is a strategic card game where players must manage their cars speed and heat in order to stay ahead of the competition. Players must do this by drafting cards and pushing their luck. The game is fast paced and tense, and perfect for both new and experienced board gamers. So what are you waiting for? Put the pedal to the metal and experience car racing as you never have before!
Expansions to Turbocharge Your Game

If you've already mastered the base game and are looking for even more content, the expansions for Heat add a whole new dimension to the race:
- Heat: Tunnel Vision adds two challenging new tracks. The Spanish Grand Prix forces players to trust their instincts as they navigate treacherous tunnels, while the Netherlands track makes you put the pedal to the metal whilst tackling a succession of tricky corners. Just one mistake could mean certain destruction! This expansion also increases the player count to seven and adds new technical elements like chicanes, tunnels, and new Front Wing upgrade cards.
- Get ready for more heat and stress with Heat: Heavy Rain. This expansion lives up to its name by including new submerged track sections where players must spend an extra heat to downshift. This expansion focuses on two new tracks in Japan and Mexico and introduces the new "purple drop" cooldown. This unique mechanic allows players to take a heat card from their discard pile and place it back in their engine, offering a new way to manage your stress.
- We're excited to hear that the next Heat expansion, Heat: Rocky Roads, is coming out early next year! We'll be keeping a close eye on any news about the release, so be sure to check our News and Events page and social media channels for the latest updates. In the meantime, if exhilarating but futuristic racing games are your thing, why not check out Joyride and it’s fun expansions!
Get Ready to Floor it with Heat!

We think Heat: Pedal to the Metal and its expansions are a neat addition to your games collection. The base game and it’s expansions fully capture the experience of car racing in a unique and exciting way. Dave Whitelaw said in a previous post that “Heat: Pedal to the Metal is a masterpiece. A sumptuous, luxurious production with gameplay that has been honed to perfection and enough in the box to keep any gaming group satisfied long into the future” - and we couldn’t agree more!
If you like Heat, don’t forget to check out Ticket to Ride, another fantastic game from Days of Wonder. We have a post about the latest Ticket to Ride expansion over on our News and Events page.
