Explore Lorcana's Wilds Unknown with Chaos Cards!

Following the freezing cold our Illumineers battled in Winterspell, times are changing in the upcoming Lorcana release; Wilds Unknown. Something more unpredictable is on the way in the form of the untamed and unknown, and the Chaos Cards team are here to bring you all the news about this exciting new release from Ravensburger! The Chaos Cards team were lucky enough to be sent some popular Lorcana products ahead of the May 15th release date.

In Wilds Unknown, Glimmers of all shapes and sizes must navigate the more treacherous areas of Lorcana, in order to find their way home. The narrative tension is rising; From the unknown depths of the Wilderknot – where overgrown trees cast shadows and quicksand is ready to test each step, to the looming Torchlight Peaks and the Great Empty Sea, Wilds Unknown is set to be a wild departure from the whimsical adventures we have experienced so far!

The giant vine, first whispered about in Whispers of the Well and fought back by Elsa in Winterspell, has evolved. It has now spread into uncharted territory, creating an “Organic Panic” that threatens the very heart of the realm. Whether you are following the lore or just here for the gameplay, the storytelling in Wilds Unknown feels like a really important moment for all Lorcana players.

You may remember our excitement when it was announced that Pixar would be joining Lorcana, and from our sneak peak at Wilds Unknown, we can see what a great addition they make to the team!

And the timing could not be any more perfect. With the next Toy Story installment hitting our cinemas this Summer, seeing Woody, Buzz and friends join the Illumineers feels like a really special moment in Lorcana history. And it isn’t just Toy Story that players can look forward to; we were very excited to see characters from Brave and The Incredibles in our booster packs. With these new faces come new mechanics, including the introduction of the Toy and Super classifications. These new subtypes mean players can build dedicated typal decks, which in turn means new strategic avenues of play! Excitingly, Wilds Unknown introduces a stunning aesthetic upgrade known as "Lore Nouveau." This Art Nouveau-inspired style adds a new dimension to the Enchanted cards, perfectly capturing a sense of wonder and discovery as the Illumineers explore dangerous new lands. 

Keep an eye out for the Wilds Unknown Chase cards: Merida – Formidable Archer and Buzz Lightyear – Jungle Ranger. These Iconic Rare Cards features the characters framed within the threatening vines that are looking to take over Lorcana. The artwork on these cards in particular is stunning! Unfortunately we didn’t pull any chase cards or Lore Nouvea cards in our pack openings this time, but maybe we will catch one at the Lorcana Midnight Release event at the Chaos Cards Tabletop Gaming Store in Folkestone!

Talking of the Lorcana Pre Release, Wilds Unknown looks to be one of the most exciting releases yet! Pre Release for the next installment of Lorcana begins on Friday 8th May (with the full retail release following on May 15th.) Illumineers are in for a treat as Wilds Unknown will feature Lorcanas first ever pre-release kit. These kits look to be an absolute game changer for organised play.

The Pre-Release kits are perfectly curated for competitive play or even a friendly round of Pack Rush. Each kit contains:

• 6 Booster Packs,
• Promo Cards featuring 1 of 6 random ‘Traveller’ promos,
• Rule Sheet,
• Collectible Postcard.

We also got a sneak peak at the following products which we are very excited to share!

• Merida Playmat: Merida just so happens to be one of our absolute favourite Pixar characters, and we are thrilled to see Merida feature on this gorgeous playmat. The playmat features our fiery heroine ready with her bow, surrounded by stunning deep green hues that make her iconic red hair truly stand out. Just check out how stunning it is!

• Two-Player Starter Set: If you are a newcomer looking to jump in, this is your best starting point. Featuring Mrs. Incredible and Buzz Lightyear, this set includes two balanced, ready-to-play decks, game tokens, accessories, and a handy rulebook. The Mrs Incredible and Buzz Lightyear decks perfectly capture the adventurous atmosphere of Wilds Unknown. We think the Starter Set is the ideal way to learn the ropes of Lorcana. We love the fact that the lore counter is part of the packaging as it feels like less waste. The Starter Set feels really exciting to open and explore and it is a lot of fun to go through the decks. It is the perfect place to progress from the Lorcana Gateway box. Collectors will probably enjoy the Mrs. Incredible and Buzz Lightyear promo cards.
• The Wilds Unknown Illumineer’s Trove: The Illumineers Trove is the ultimate companion for any Lorcana collection, and the Wilds Unknown Trove is a dream! It includes a sturdy storage box, 6 card dividers, 8 booster packs, 6 damage counter dice, and a lore counter to keep your games organised and on track. At Chaos Cards, we think the Illumineers Trove is a great middle ground product for both beginners to the games and long term players. It is a really great collectors piece that works really well for storing your treasured cards, and the dice and dividers are a nice addition that really polish off anyone's collection.

Wilds Unknown is just the beginning of the Illumineers quest through wild and untamed lands, and we feel like we have only just scratched the surface of this amazing set in this post. We’ve had a fantastic time exploring these amazing Lorcana products ahead of their official release on May 15th and we can’t wait to share the excitement with you!
