The game is cleverly structured into two distinct stages:
Stage 1: Preparation (The Build)
In stage 1 of the game, you must prepare your subterranean plot for an inevitable attack! Players use strategic action placement to dig tunnels and expand their plot, mine gold and acquire valuable resources, hire monsters (such as Trolls, Imps, etc.) to patrol the halls and create traps and magical curses to deter intruders. You have to do all these things whilst acquiring the resources needed to make your dungeon as evil as possible!
Stage 2: Combat (The Attack)
This is where the cheeky adventurers come knocking! The band of "do-gooders" includes Thieves, Wizards, Priests, and Warriors, each with different annoying abilities (like disarming traps, casting spells, and healing).
Frustratingly, you must defeat these do gooders in combat while minimizing damage to your dungeon. We love the twist of playing the antagonist and fighting off the heroes—it definitely reminds us of the fun, thematic elements found in games like Villainous!
