A Chaos Cards Fuelled Fathers Day

A Chaos Cards Fuelled Fathers Day

Summer is finally on the way, and with Father’s Day fast approaching, the Chaos Cards team has been thinking about the best ways to celebrate the amazing men in our lives. If you are looking for a gift that will stand the test of time, why not choose one of our tabletop games, that they will love playing again and again with the whole family? Whether your dad is a seasoned strategist, a sharp tactician, or a lover of fast-paced family favourites, the Chaos Cards team have found four awesome games that are guaranteed to bring some excitement to the house this Father's Day.

For the Strategy Loving Dad

Catan is one of the board games that is classed as Tabletop Royalty. It was first released in 1995 and was designed by the legendary boardgame designer Klaus Terber. Catan has gone from strength to strength over the years, selling well over 45 million copies and being translated into over 40 different languages. You can see why many fans of the game refer to it as the cornerstone of any tabletop gamin collection! (Check out our in depth look at Catan and its related games over on our blog.)

If your Dad loves an engaging family games night, we think that Catan would be a GREAT choice this Fathers Day. Let him step into some seafaring shoes and claim an unchartered but resource rich island. There is a catch however, he isn’t the only seafarer in the game. Catan is a game of clever trading, resource management and some subtle bluffing from all players. One minute your Dad could be shaking hands on a fair trade, and the next minute he might be strategically blocking your road. He might even send a robber out onto the board.

For the Tactical, Designer Dad

Does your Dad like beautiful designs and games with immense strategic depth? Then we think that Azul would make the perfect gift for him. The popular game is inspired by azulejos (the stunning decorative tiles from Portugal,) and was created by Micheal Kiesling in 2017. The game won the prestigious Spiel des Jahres (Game of the Year) in 2018 and went on to become a staple board game for both casual and serious players alike.

Azul is a brilliant game involving tile drafting, pattern building and planning ahead. The Chaos Cards team think Azul is a really accessible game which can be learnt in around ten minutes. Whilst the base game is a great option for family gaming, Azul Duel is a version of the game that is designed for a head to head match between two players. You can even get it in an adorable mini version which is perfect for playing Azul on the go. Any version of Azul would make a great opening game for family games night, and we think it is a game your Dad would want to revisit time and time again.

For the Racing, Thrill Seeking Dad

Heat: Pedal to the Metal brings the adrenaline of a high speed car race to the comfort of your own home. The popular board game perfectly captures the intense excitement and strategy of Grand Prix in the 1960s and would be perfect for all car loving Dads out there.

Heat features some gorgeous, vintage style artwork and has some easy to learn mechanics. Heat isn’t just a game about dice and cars, it is a fast paced and strategic card game where players must manage their speed and engine heat in order to stay ahead of the competition. Your Dad and the other players draft cards and push their luck around tight corners, as they experience a fast-paced, but tense race that satisfies newcomers and veteran gamers alike.

With fantastic expansions available to customise the tracks, it's time to let Dad put the pedal to the metal this Father's Day! (Check out our full look into the game on the Chaos Cards Blog if you want more information).

For the Dad who likes to Plan Ahead

Sticking with the transport theme, Railroad Tiles is a fantastic, quick-playing choice for dads who love to optimise. Railroad Tiles is a sequel to the beloved roll-and-write series Railroad Ink. The game shifts the action to quick tile placement as players build a beautifully interconnected community.

Railroad Tiles is played over eight quick fire rounds, where players draft tiles from a common pool and place routes in front of them, trying to make as many connections as possible. Dads will need to be careful not to make overly constraining choices!

Every round, players can also populate their growing, tiny landscapes with cars, trains, or travellers. Forward planning is essential as the available actions change from round to round. Points are earned for connecting similar pieces, creating massive rectangles, or building adjacent city tiles.

If your dad is a massive train enthusiast, don't forget to check out our recent Robotime Father's Day guide featuring some incredible 3D wooden locomotive models that would make gifts for any transport loving Dad!
