How many games do you own where your cards may get messed up but you would rather not spend more on deck protectors than you did on the game? Well I decided that using a few playmats would help out. Ok some games need the cards sleeved, but a lot of the time just having a decent level play surface stops the scuffing and general table use wear of the cards. Well this is why I went for this Arcane Tinmen dragon shield gaming mats. The mat is around 60cm x 40cm so plenty of room for small solo games or if you get a few then everyone gets one for those 2-4 player card games. Other board games can work well with them maybe have your draw piles for big game sat on them or resource tiles and tokens. They have a non slip rubbery underside, with enough grip on the top to stop stuff getting knocked off them easily. They can also help for those who are accident prone with drinks and easily rolled up for storage or to hit the drink offender round the head (though i better add neither Chaos Cards or Arcane Tinmen endorse or encourage violence with the product :P :D ) Ok well you may think playmats are expensive, but with some games costing £30+ to sleeve I think it's money well spent. Playmats are down to personal choice, but as a tip I would go for ones that are functional and easy on the eye. You don't want them to busy with over the top designs that camouflage your cards and make things hard to spot or maybe you do! personal choice. I love the design of these particular mats. Maybe go find one or 2 that suit you.
Smelt a bit funny, is quite good, am using it as a giant mouse matt.
