Terraforming MarsCODE: BG-T-SG6005
In the 2400s, mankind begins to terraform the planet Mars. Giant corporations, sponsored by the World Government on Earth, initiate huge projects to raise the temperature, the oxygen level, and the ocean coverage until the environment is habitable. In Terraforming Mars, you play one of those corporations and work together in the terraforming process, but compete for getting victory points that are awarded not only for your contribution to the terraforming, but also for advancing human infrastructure throughout the solar system, and doing other commendable things.
The players acquire unique project cards (from over two hundred different ones) by buying them to their hand. The projects (cards) can represent anything from introducing plant life or animals, hurling asteroids at the surface, building cities, to mining the moons of Jupiter and establish greenhouse gas industries to heat up the atmosphere.
The cards can give you immediate bonuses, as well as increasing your production of different resources. Many cards also have requirements and they become playable when the temperature, oxygen, or ocean coverage increases enough. Buying cards is costly, so there is a balance between buying cards (3 megacredits per card) and actually playing them (which can cost anything between 0 to 41 megacredits, depending on the project). Standard Projects are always available to complement your cards.
Your basic income, as well as your basic score, is based on your Terraform Rating (starting at 20), which increases every time you raise one of the three global parameters. However, your income is complemented with your production, and you also get VPs from many other sources.
Each player keeps track of their production and resources on their player boards, and the game uses six types of resources: MegaCredits, Steel, Titanium, Plants, Energy, and Heat. On the game board, you compete for the best places for your city tiles, ocean tiles, and greenery tiles. You also compete for different Milestones and Awards worth many VPs. Each round is called a generation (guess why) and consists of the following phases:
1) Player order shifts clockwise.
2) Research phase: All players buy cards from four privately drawn.
3) Action phase: Players take turns doing 1-2 actions from these options: Playing a card, claiming a Milestone, funding an Award, using a Standard project, converting plant into greenery tiles (and raising oxygen), converting heat into a temperature raise, and using the action of a card in play. The turn continues around the table until all players pass.
4) Production phase: Players get resources according to their terraform rating and production parameters.
When the three global parameters (temperature, oxygen, ocean) have all reached their goal, the terraforming is complete, and the game ends after that generation. Count your Terraform Rating and other VPs to determine the winning corporation!
Terraforming Mars is a game for 1-5 Players, average game time of 90-120 minutes and recommended for ages 12+

TM is really good fun. Played 2 player games so far and love the changing goals through the game and different cards. Product quality is great. Took us a couple of reads of the instructions, some time on YouTube and a few Googles before we really understood it, but so worth the effort.
We haven't stopped playing it since we bought it. The game's reputation is well deserved.
I had heard a lot about this game but didn't it was for me. After watching a few playthroughs, it looked very interesting and I thought I would buy it for myself. I absolutely love this game. It's mechanisms are interesting and there is a lot of strategic decision making involved. Although the game does depend a lot on the luck of the draw when drafting cards, it's what you do with them that shapes your success or failure. I also like the fact that there is a lot of resource management. That, together with hand management makes for tough strategic choices. There is a little of take that but not so much as to alienate new players. This game also has a very strong solo mode and is easy to teach to new players. Just play the first game open. This game is not for you if you don't enjoy strategy games, dislike victory points or if co-op is your thing. Having said that, I think it would be easy to co-op this game by concentrating on the terraforming aspect an, possibly, pooling victory points to see how far you could get as a team. Overall I think it's a great game.
Great game fast delivery and good price would use again
Awesome game. Requires lots of initial learning but becomes fairly easy to play after a few rounds (generations). Not easy to win though...you may have to watch others and try to assess their strategy, and maybe change your own strategy too! Allow at least 3 hours for your first game...gets quicker with experience but it’s never going to be a quick game :-) Hugh replayability using different corporations (also several expansions available but this is just referring to the base game). Great theme too, which holds throughout the entire game. Could have been 5 stars but the component quality is best described as ‘adequate’ sadly, and the player boards in particular need improvement. I would say it’s good value for money overall.
First of all no complaints about chaos cards amazing company, great value for money fast delivery everything on their part was 5 stars Had a problem with this copy of the game the printing on the tiles was of centre and had to contact stronghold games to get replacement tiles shipped to me. Still looking forward to playing this when they arrive.
Excellent game, loads of counterfeit versions now flooding the market, so it’s worthwhile to pay a little bit more from a reputable company to get the genuine article. Many people complain about the quality of the components, I am happy with the overall quality of the product except for one punchboard which is printed off centre - doesn’t effect the gameplay but for a game over £50 I would expect better quality control. The game plays great solo and up to full player count of 5. Rules aren’t overly complex to learn and it’s 1.5hrs of fun every game. Definitely one for your collection.
Amazing game; looking forward to hours and hours of engaging gameplay with my friends and family. Previously I'd ordered a copy on Amazon and it had come to me faulty. I sent it back for replacement 4 times and each one was faulty. The tile pieces were printed misaligned, player cubes were chipped/scuffed/dull colours and/or the board edges were scuffed. After complaining about my experience with Amazon to a coworker, I was told about Chaos Cards and immediately bought a copy from them. The quality was much improved and I have no problems with it. I look forward to buying further expansion packs for this game from Chaos Cards. From the research I've done, all of the expansions seem to be highly rated, so there's plenty of enjoyment to be had from this game and its expansions.
Definitely highly recommended. Can be a little complicated to pick up on the first play - needed about 20 minutes to go through all the rules and set up - but once you get the details it's very quick to get the hang of and very enjoyable. We bought a small plastic storage box for all the small pieces and you'll need a decent size playing surface to make the most of the game. We've played 3 2-player games so far, all of which have gone very differently. There's lots of possible variations to add in too so I doubt we'll get bored quickly. There are a lot of game pieces and potential mechanics to keep track of so it can lead to quite intense 90-150 minute games but very enjoyable. Highly rated for being good for two players and adaptable enough to not get boring. It's also different enough from other games to stand out as unique and interesting. Game board and piece quality is good, if not outstanding - the small pieces will likely scuff and may be tricky to keep in good condition. No issues as yet with complications on rules.
