Designed by Kevin Wilson, Civilization: The Board Game is inspired by the legendary video game series created by Sid Meier. Players are tasked with guiding an entire civilization throughout the ages, taking ownership of your people's technology, economy, culture, and military, as well as all the choices that go along with them. There are four different paths to victory, and each is riddled with opposition.

In Civilization: The Board Game, 2-4 players take on the roles of famous leaders in charge of historical civilizations, each with their own abilities. Players will be able to explore a module game board, build cities and buildings, fight battles, research powerful technology, and attract great people by advancing their culture. No matter what your play style is, there is a civilization for you!

Value for Money

This game is so deeply underrated in my opinion. BGG has turned their nose up at it but I look at it this way; you get nearly Twilight Imperium levels of depth but you can play it with two players which means it'll hit the table much more often if like me you play with your partner. We both love this game enough that we bought both expansions (both of which I'd also recommend). The four paths to victory (science, economy, military, cultural) all feel viable and in combination with all the different races I feel like I could play this 100 times and still be playing a fresh game each time.

Make no mistake though, this game is an event. It will take you at least 4 hours to get through. This is one of the most common criticisms of it but again, look at it this way; when was the last time you completed a game of Civilization on the PC in less than 4 hours?

I love games that involve some exploration and I really love it here, even though I'd agree this is the weakest part of the game. The reason for this is that the terrain can be very inconsistent. We actually house rule that first you place the terrain so as not to interrupt a sea or river, then you obey the arrow rule. You end up with a far more coherent map.
