Pokemon Scarlet & Violet - Black Bolt and White Flare News

Welcome back to the Black and White era of Pokemon

News hot from the Pokémon press, Pokémon will be releasing Scarlet & Violet – Black Bolt and White Flare this Summer and it looks to be a highly anticipated release! The release is set to be a split expansion, with Black Bolt focusing on Zekrom ex and Meloetta ex and White Flare focusing on Reshiram ex and Keldeo ex. Needless to say, the Pokémon community is buzzing with excitement over this news. Perhaps even more so then when we annouced Destined Rivals!

What can we Expect from this release?

Each set in the split expansion will include over 170 cards, with 65 illustration cards and more then 5 special illustration cards. This means the overall set will include around 300 cards when combined! The Chaos Cards team are rather excited to see the Black White rare cards, so far, all we know about these cards is that they will feature illustrations in a monochromatic black or white design! Both expansions will include three different parallel foil sets, including either a shimmering rainbow Poké-Ball or Master Ball pattern. The expansions will highlight the 156 Pokémon from the Unova region.

Head back to a Nostalgic Era

The Black Bolt and White Flare release takes us back to the Black and White era of Pokémon and will feature nostalgic designs from this series, including the basic energy cards. We don’t know about you, but we really appreciate it when Pokémon throws back to some of its iconic releases. We love that some of the new cards in this set will feature elements from the original Black and White release as well.

So far, it looks like the Scarlet and Violet – Black Bolt and White Flare release on the 18th July will include:

• The standard booster packs, (containing 10 cards, a code card and an energy card.)
• Scarlet & Violet—Black Bolt or Scarlet & Violet—White Flare Binder Collection, containing 5 booster packs and one nine pocket album featuring either Zekrom or Reshiram, which is perfect for storing and organising your Pokémon cards.
• The Elite Trainer Box looks as awesome as ever. The Scarlet and Violet Black Bolt or White Flare ETB will each contain 9 booster packs, a full art promo card with either Thundurus or Tornadus, card sleeves, energy cards, players guide, dice, condition markers and a flip coin. It also all comes in a very cool looking Box with dividers which is perfect to store everything in.
• The Unova Poster Collection will include four booster packs three promo cards and a rather awesome looking double sided poster. The promo cards feature Snivy, Tepig and Oshawott and are perfect for filling out your regional Pokédex.
• The Unova Mini tins are super cute and will include one Black Bolt booster pack and one White Flare booster pack, along with an art card and a matching sticker card. These tins are the perfect size for carrying your beloved deck from tournament to tournament.

The following sets are due to be released in August:

• The Scarlet & Violet Black Bolt and White Flare tech Sticker Collection will include three booster packs, one illustration rare style promo card featuring Reuniculus or Gothielle and a sticker sheet – perfect for personalising tech devices.
• The Unova Victini Illustration Collection contains 4 booster packs, a gorgeous rare style foil promo card and a premium parallel foil card featuring Victini. You also get an oversized card which is perfect to display!
• Scarlet & Violet Black Bolt or White Flare Booster Bundle will each contain six booster packs depending on which set you go for. These bundles are perfect for boosting your collection.

A Pokémon First!

This release is the first time the English version of the TCG will consist of dual sets like in Japan. In this case, Black Bolt and White Flare are separate but related sets. Exciting right? In another first, both the Japanese and English versions will share the same name! This makes Black Bolt and White Flare really feel like a set to get excited about.

The Journey begins on the 18th July 2025
